UNIT 6: COOL CREATURES

Monday 4th April, 2016
-cage: a boxlike enclosure with wires or bars forming the sides, for keeping birds or animals.
-hairy: covered with hair.
-to feed; to give food to.
-homeless: having nowhere to live; living on the streets.
-chatroom: a site on the internet, or another computer network, where users have group discussions by electronic mail, typically about one subject.
-to wander: to move around without a definite purpose or plan; roam.
-well-meaning: having or based on good intentions; intending or wanting to do something kind or goof.
-thoughtless: lacking in or not showing care or consideration for others.
-to neglect: to pay no attention or too little attention to; to fail to give enough care to.

-waistcoast = vest: a fitted, waist-lenght, sleeveless garment with buttons down the front, usually under a jacket.
-beanie: a skullcap, often brightly colored, worn by children and by college freshmen, in the 1940s.
-bodyguard: a person or group of persons hired to guard an individual.
-kitten: a young and very little cat.
-crack: a break without separation of parts; a slight opening, as between boards in the floor.
-weightlifting: the act, art, or sport of lifting barbells of given poundages in a prescribed manner, as a competitive event or conditioning exercise.
-dealer: a person who buys and sells drugs illegally.
-cuddle: to hold close in an affectionate manner; hug tenderly.
-shelter: a building serving as a temporary place to live, as for the homeless or unwanted animals.
-dampness: moisture; humidity.

-unbearable: that cannot be endured, suffered through, or tolerated.
-heat: degree of hotness; temperature.
-chest: the front portion of the body enclosed by the ribs; thorax.
-delighted: great enjoyment; joy; happines.
-to attempt: to make an effort at; try.
-to upset: to disturb mentally or emotionally; to overturn.
-tent: a movable shelter of cloth, etc., held up by poles and held down by stakes in the ground.
-inquiringly: seeking information.
-wasted: useless; exhausted.
-to keep your word = be true to your word.
-cart: a two-wheeled vehicle pulled by horses, oxen, etc., and used to carry goods, for farming, etc.

A CONVICT'S TALE: Chapter 7 (The Escape)
-bush: a low plant with many branches that arise from near the ground.
-whistle: to make a high, clear sound by forcing the breath through stretched lips or through the teeth.
-lifeless: inanimate, having no life; not endowed with life.
-wheat: the grain of any cereal grass of the genus.
-searchlight: a device, usually consisting of a light and reflector, for throwing a beam of light in any direction.
-proof: evidence or facts that are sufficient to establish a thing as true of believable.
-cabbages: a plant, of the mustard family, having a short stem and leaves that form into a rounded head.
-sunrise: the rise of the sun above the horizon in the morning.
-exhaustion: the state of being exhausted.
-forehead: the part of the face above the eyebrows.
